Newspaper Articles About Non-monogamous Relationships
- The
Importance Of Families And Marriage by Robert H. Knight, testimony
before the Senate Health, Education and Social Services Committee,
State of Alaska, regarding SB 308. See also the
Questions
and answers following the testimony.
This testimony, by a supposed expert, is so riddled with falsehoods and
gaping logical flaws that it could be used as a test in a logic course.
To point out just a few: Knight states "No society has loosened sexual
morality outside of man-woman marriage and survived." Apparently he has
never heard of any Islamic country, or Tibet, or even ancient Greece.
(A. M. bin Ramli notes that "Only about one quarter of the 565
societies according to Murdock's World Ethnographic Sample are strictly
monogamous in the sense of permitting no other form of mariage.")
He also says "If the one-man, one-woman definition of marriage is broken,
there is no logical stopping point for continuing the assault on marriage."
This is sheer fear-mongering: one obvious way to define a marriage is as
a group of adults raising one or more children, and this definition gives
one logical stopping point (there are others).
