In the 19th century they were pariahs who turned American values upside-down: The Mormons substituted communalism for individualism, theocracy for democracy, and polygamy for monogamy. In the 20th century, they became champions of capitalism and the American Dream - and one of the most prosperous and fastest-growing religions in the world. Malise Ruthven charts the Mormons' amazing metamorphosis. Now that they have survived every adversity, he asks, will success prove the Mormons' undoing?

Anarchy: A Journal of Desire Armed Vol 14 Issue 2 Summer '94

There's some changes in store for this long-running publication addressing the anarchist community. Jason is taking the summer off, as is the magazine. The fall issue will be published by a new collective in New York and will most likely be very different.

This issue has some interesting reports on what happened in Moscow last fall; an introduction to the work of the Ecology Montreal party; a unique discussion about nonmonogamy and polyfidelity; Feral Faun presented some thoughts about Peter Lamborn Wilson; and some very enjoyable short fiction. They're finally catching up with the correspondence -- almost 50 pages devtoted to printing reader's letters this time.

Jason will continue publishing *Alternative Press Review*. The new address for *Anarchy* is B.A.L. Press, P.O. Box 2647, New York, NY 10009.

    $3.50 Each , Subs: $12.00 for 6 issues to C.A.L., P.O. Box 1446, Columbia, MO 65205-1446 (100 Pages/S/RSF) submissions OK/back issues/no ads.
