Robert Owen, New Lanark
Robert Owen (1771-1858) was a successful industrialist who applied his
considerable fortune to founding several cooperative and socialist communities,
beginning with his own employees. His first efforts were spectacularly
successful and widely admired; later ones (in America) spectacularly
unsuccessful.
