Sonnets To JenniCam I, 12

by Howard A. Landman

April 10, 1997 ?

Hail to the wire with power that connects;
we are most human in communication.
So why not span the miles with aural sex,
and spend a sunny day in masturbation?

In the absence of physical tenderness,
we settle for sensual self-caress.
Let voices mingle and marry,
and the phone and internet carry ...

Pure Eros. Oh music of fingers at play!
Is not, through your impulsive employment,
every disturbance deflected away?

Even the lover whose tongue and thumbs
are selfless in service of your enjoyment
never feels this good. Your hand just hums.

Fort Collins, July 18, 1999

In addition to being a tribute to Jenni, this poem is also a satire of R. M. Rilke's "Sonnets to Orpheus I, 12".
