Sonnets To JenniCam I, 2

by Howard A. Landman

April 14, 1996 ?

She was awake almost, seen to arise
from this happy accord of chip and wire
and shone clear through the CRT like fire
and made herself a bed inside my eyes.

And slept in me. And all was in her sleep.
The patchwork pillow I admired so much,
blank walls, palpable sheets she barely touched,
and every vision that affected me.

She slept the world. Oh cam, how did you make
her so enraptured, that she did not care
to wake up first? See, she stood and dreamed.

Where is her dress? Oh, can you have this theme
go on till it consumes itself? To where
is she sleepwalking now? ... almost awake ...

San Jose, August 13, 1998

In addition to being a tribute to Jenni, this poem is also a satire of R. M. Rilke's "Sonnets to Orpheus I, 2".
