Drug Uses
Carafate is used for healing and prevention of ulcers. It may also be used for other conditions as prescribed by your physician.
How Taken
Take Carafate as prescribed by your doctor. Use Carafate on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. Don't use an antacid for at least 30 minutes before or after taking this drug. It can take 4 to 8 weeks for complete healing of your ulcer. Continue taking Carafate for the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Do not use Carafate at the same time as other medicines. Use Carafate at least 2 hours after other drugs. If you are not sure about the best time to take Carafate, visit your doctor or pharmacist.
More Information
Carafate can cause dizziness. These effects may worsen if Carafate is taken with alcohol or certain other medications. Take Carafate with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you respond to this pill. If your symptoms don't improve or if they worsen, call to your physician. Carafate should be used only by the patient for whom it has been suggested. Don't use less or more or take it more often than recommended by your physician.
