Drug Uses
Carafate is used for healing and prevention of ulcers. It may also be used for other conditions as recommended by your doctor.
How Taken
Take Carafate as advised by your physician. Use Carafate on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before or twp hours after a meal. Do not take an antacid for at least 30 minutes before or after taking Carafate. It can take 4 to 8 weeks for complete healing of your ulcer. Continue taking Carafate for the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Do not take Carafate at the same time as other medicines. Take Carafate at least 2 hours after other drugs. If you are not sure about the best time to use Carafate, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Additional Information
Carafate may cause dizziness. These effects can worsen if Carafate is taken with alcohol or certain other medications. Use Carafate with caution. Don't drive or perform other possibly negative tasks until you know how you react to this medicine. If your symptoms do not improve or if they worsen, talk to your doctor. Carafate should be used only by the patient for whom it has been recommended. Don't take less or more or take it more often than recommended by your doctor.
